Oihana Vesga

Oihana is a choreographer and dancer from the Basque Country. Her movement practice, strongly based on rhythm and precise gestural vocabulary, is intertwined with voice work and singing as means of expression. She is interested in exploring how concrete actions can expand universes of meaning. She sees dance as a space that appeals to our perception and activates both individual and collective imagination.

Oihana combines her own creative work with performing, thus expanding her practice through dialogue with other creators and artists.

She trained at The Place – London Contemporary Dance School and began her professional career as a dancer in London with the Richard Alston company, where she performed for five years. Since then, she has collaborated with various companies and coreographers such as Simona Bertozzi, Joe Moran, Lokke-Olatz de Andres, Blanca Arrieta, Didy Veldman, Iker Arrue, Rick Nodine, Myriam Perez Cazabon, La Intrusa Company, Glyndebourne Opera, Node, and Marina Suarez Ortiz de Zárate, among others. She has been developing her choreographic work since 2017, in pieces such as Motivaction, Bragas y Celine, and About a common place, and she also co-directs the collective Mari Zaunka alongside Nerea Gurrutxaga. In April 2024, the Association of Dance Professionals of Gipuzkoa awarded her the Dedication Prize, recognizing her career as both a performer and maker.
